Duduza Mini Cricket Festival nurtures young talent
About 50 preschools from Duduza, Geluksdal and Tsakani gathered for a day of fun and learning at a cricket festival.
Preschool learners from Duduza, Geluksdal, and Tsakani enjoyed a day of friendly competition and fun at the KFC Mini Cricket Festival at the Multi-Purpose Centre on October 16.

Duduza ECD coordinator Puleng Moeketsane spoke about the importance of developing children’s skills early.
“When a child leaves creche and heads to primary school, they leave already equipped with the knowledge of the sport and they have a desire to pursue it,” she said.
She encouraged ECD’s that have not yet joined the programme to do so.

“Come and join to see how much these kids love and enjoy cricket. This is where their talent can be developed, so its important that they start early,” she said.
The Tsakani ECD coordinator, Makhosazana Nkosi, talked about the preparation that went into planning the festival.
“There was a lot of work done behind the scenes to plan this event, we had to meet and plan how to incorporate ECDs from the various areas into the day’s fixtures,” she said.
She described the event as a success, saying that the main goal is for kids to learn and enjoy themselves.
Duduza Cricket Club founder and local cricket legend Douglas ’Sir Doug’ Sibali, who has mentored and inspired generations of local cricketers, said his vision is to grow the community’s cricket scene to greater heights

“Years ago, I took young boys, taught them cricket, and I am proud to see them being coaches, and some went on to play nationally and internationally.
“When I see these young ones, I see the future of cricket. They are the people who will carry the love for cricket for generations to come,” he said proudly.
He shared his vision for the young cricketers.
“I see them as the premier league of this club. My vision is to see them become coaches and players and move to greater heights,” Sibali concluded.
