Passage and ninja tree cause double trouble

Passage makes residents uneasy

Passages in the township are notorious for being dangerous with high levels of muggings.

One such passage divides Extension One and KwaThema Sports Complex.

Two residents, who wished to remain anonymous as they fear for their safety, said muggings in the passage happen during the day and at night.

“One of the muggers told a guy we live with that he often sees me outside, and this is his operational area and I must not disturb him,” explained the resident.

Apart from heightened muggings on pay days, the residents said other regular targets include college students who cut through the complex on their way to and from college.

They also add that it’s not only people passing in the passage that become victims of these thugs.

“We have learned from experience that when you hang up your clothes and shoes, you need to be extra vigilant or they will disappear.”

A big tree next to the passage in Monareng Street, dubbed “ninja tree” is also identified as the hiding place for criminals who jump out at unsuspecting victims and rob them.

KwaThema Police Captain Mandla Phori said no cases have been opened at the police station by victims of the passage or tree.

He advised members of the public who get mugged to report their cases, as it will enable thee police to investigate the case.
