Pholosong celebrates International Nurses’ Day

The International Nurses's Day was also celebrated at Pholosong Hospital

Nurses at Pholosong Hospital celebrated International Nurse’s Day last Friday.

The aim of the day was to commemorate the good work that was done by the first nurses who started the nursing profession, such as Florence Nightingale and Cecilia Makiwane.

Speaking about the purpose of the day, Fikile Mabuza confirmed that the day is celebrated to remember the good work done by the first nurses.

Nurse’s Day was first celebrated in 1954 on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the English nurse who is considered the founder of modern nursing.

She appealed to the nurses to do their work with love by always treating the patients with respect and dignity. Delivering a keynote address, retired nurse Thenjiwe Pakade, encouraged the nurses to do their best irrespective of the difficult situations that they sometimes have to work under.

She further motivated the nurses to always ensure that they wear a smile on their faces and bring hope to patients, irrespective of the patient’s stage of sickness.

“Your work is to heal and bring hope to the sick and their families,” said Pakade.
