Kwa-Thema artist uses AI to chase hip-hop dreams

Kwa-Thema hip-hop artist Katlego “Mokoalaba K” Makaolaba is using artificial intelligence to create music and pursue his dream of becoming a top AI music producer.

Kwa-Thema – Katlego Makaolaba, popularly known as Mokoalaba K, is an innovative hip-hop artist who has dreams to take his music career to greater heights.

He recently released an eight-track EP featuring songs titled Ngikuthanda Njenge Mali,Azange Abekhona, Umona Usuka Esweni and more.

His music journey started in school when he would write poetry and hip-hop and RnB songs.

“My friends always told me to take this music thing seriously because I’m a good writer. I’ve been an unknown artist for a while.

“I grew up listening to F-Eazy and RnB and I ended up writing my own songs. I was not an amazing singer; I knew I could only do hip-hop, even though I write RnB, until I discovered artificial intelligence (AI),” he said.

Mokoalaba K explained how an advertisement on TikTok inspired him to create music using AI.

“Most artists gatekeep record deals and as an unknown artist from Kwa-Thema, I can’t get a deal to write music for prominent artists, so AI made it possible.

“I started three months ago and I fell in love with it because I was able to do a song, send it to my friends, post it on TikTok and it got a great reception,” Mokoalaba K said.

He added that the good reactions motivated him to create more. Mokoalaba K is inspired by renowned artists such as Tamia, Lizz Wiright and Vusi Nova.

“AI has become my best friend and gives counselling to most of the things I go through, so AI and making music makes me a better me,” Mokoalaba K said.
