Police warn people to avoid doing business with people that they do not know.
According to the Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, there are people who pretend to be in the platinum business.
He says the suspects convince the up-and-coming business owners to buy platinum from them at a minimum amount of R20 000.
He says the suspects also persuade their victims to take out personal loans, all in the name of making a huge profit from the platinum business.
“It is alleged that once you have the R20 000 the suspects rob you of all that money and you never get the platinum or they give you fake platinum,” says Ramphora.
He says people need to understand that dealing with fake platinum is a crime.
