The KwaThema Shoprite Supermarket turned into a battlefield during a robbery last Wednesday.
According to KwaThema police spokesman Captain Mandla Phori, the robbery occurred around 11am.
He says two of eight robbers entered the supermarket, leaving the rest of the robbers outside.
Phori says the robbers pointed firearms, threatened to kill anyone who screamed while also instructing them to lie down.
“The six robbers who were waiting outside then stormed inside and demanded cash from the store manager and robbed some of the customers of their belongings such as cell phones and cash,” says Phori.
He continued to say that when the robbers were trying to escape from the scene, one of the supermarket’s security guards fired several shots towards them and the robbers fired back, injuring him on the leg.
The guard was later taken to the hospital for treatment and the robbers left the scene using a black Ford Bantam.
No arrest has been made and the police are still looking for the suspects. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the robbers should call KwaThema police on 011 812 4600 or 10111.
