Police officer assaulted with a brick

A police officer who was trying to intervene in a fight was hit on the head.

Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza says the incident took place on Sunday around 3.10am at Langaville Extension Seven.

He says police were patrolling in that area when they noticed that one of the taverns was not complying with the closing time.

“They went to the tavern with the intention of ordering the owner to close when a fight between two groups started,” says Mabuza.

He added that the police tried to intervene to end the fight and one of the officers was hit on the head with a brick.

Two suspects were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court soon.
