Law Zondo encourages athletics

Law Zondo from Tsakane is an aspiring Comrades Marathon athlete who discovered his passion for running in 1998 when he won his first silver medal at Chestworth Stadium.

Zondo explains he is originally from KwaZulu Natal were his passion for athletics began to grow from a tender age.

He says his high school teacher Sipho Makhathini formed a group called the Umlazi Athletic Club were he was groomed to be a disciplined athlete.

According to Zondo, in 2013 he participated in a 10km race in Katlehong where he attained a silver medal with a time of 55 minutes.

Zondo then participated at the 10km Johnson Crane were he attained a silver medal for an improved time of 37 minutes.

“My last race was last year at a Pick ‘n Pay Fun Run which was 8km where I attained another silver”, he says.

He encourages the youth of Kwatsaduza to take athletics very seriously and take exercise as a lifestyle.

According to Zondo there are resources that have been put in place by government yet the youth just take them for granted.

Zondo adds when one is a disciplined athlete who aspires to be professional it would be very difficult to be a victim of substance abuse because you would be aware of the health risks that are attached to that behaviour.
