She is confident and has dreams
Nomasomi Limako (43) from Duduza was born with a disability but that did not stand in her way to achieving her dreams.
In 2010 she participated in the positive convention in Durban.
Limako also appeared on different media platforms speaking about stigma and was also part of the Think Tank for HIV positive women in leadership.
Recently, she participated in a Zero Stigma, Zero Discrimination campaign with the South African National Aids Council (SANAC) where she also serves in the disability interim committee sector.
In 2003, Limako was diagnosed with HIV, news which she said changed her life.
She explained that after she was told about her HIV status, she thought her days were numbered on earth.
Limako said she struggled to come to terms with her HIV status and that she kept the news to herself for a couple of months.
“Living with a disability and being HIV positive is the one situation which makes one find themselves facing a number of challenges,” said Limako.
She said other residents from her community do not give her the same treatment that they give to other women within the community.
“When I was pregnant, people were talking behind my back, making many painful comments about my disability and the fact that I was pregnant,” said Limako.
Adding that the comments did not take away her confidence and belief in herself.
Now, Limako is one of the participants in the Next Positive South African Hero competition.
While in the competition, Limako is expected to raise funds for a charity organisation of her choice.
Sibusisiwe support group in KwaThema is the organisation which Limako will work with.
Limako appeals for the community to vote for her to keep her in the competition.
To vote for her, SMS Pozherosa2 to 47439, voting lines are opened until July 31.
