240 injured, one dead in train crash
The driver of the Business Express train involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Milpark Hospital while a metro guard on board the train died at the scene.
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) chief executive officer Mr Mosenngwa Mofi has confirmed that 240 passengers were taken to hospital following this morning’s crash between two trains at the Denver Train Station.
The driver of the Business Express train involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Milpark Hospital while a metro guard on board the train died at the scene.
80 people have since been discharged from hospital while 12 were admitted for a range of injuries.
The crash occurred at around 7.10am between a Business Express train and a Metro rail train.
At the time of the crash the metro train was stationary.
On scene investigations are expected to take about six hours.
The Metro plus train was carrying 710 passengers while the business express carried 200 passengers.
