N17 celebrates Nursing Day
The N17 Hospital's nursing staff celebrated International Nurses Day today.
Director of nurses and nursing education at Netcare, Sharon Nell, says nursing is the largest profession in the health workforce.
May 12 marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who is known as the founder of modern nursing.
Hospitals all over the world have celebrated this day since 1965.
With this year’s theme ‘Nurses: A Force for Change, Nell says the expertise that every nurse applies in their daily work can make an important difference.
Nell feels nurses play a key role in the implementation of a range of evidence-based international best practices adopted by Netcare, which have been proven to benefit patients.
Nursing staff at the hospital were in a festive mood, singing songs and enjoying breakfast.
Netcare acknowledges the incredible work done by the nursing staff and the immense responsibilities they assume in caring for patients.
“We salute our nurses for the passion, compassion, dignity and respect with which they care for our patients, and for their invaluable contribution to South African society as a whole,” concludes Nell.
