Getting locals into the culture of healthy living
KwaThema – A three-hour aerobics marathon took place at the Bulithando Park over the weekend.
The marathon was hosted by the Gym Tym Fitness Club (GTFC) from the area, for anyone in the community who wanted to participate.
“When we hold these marathons, we have them in open areas, so that residents who are interested in joining us can come and exercise,” says Kgotso Maba, owner and fitness instructor at GTFC.
“The exercises we do include hi-lows, kata box, cardio and fitness, among other things.
“We also have these marathons weekly and make sure we move around to different locations, so that more people will spot us and, through this, we are able to support each other as clubs from Daveyton, Duduza, Danota and Tsakane.”
Other clubs that were present for the marathon included the Daveyton Fitness Club and the Duduza Aerobics Club.
Maba says it is imperative to promote wellness and healthy living among the black nations, so that more people are able to burn fat and get rid of more of their illnesses.
He believes that everyone should strive to be fitter at all times, and says one of the best ways to do this is through aerobics, which is one of the easiest ways to get into shape, since the entire body gets moving while one is burning fat and gaining stamina.
The team exercises at the KwaThema Sports Complex from Monday to Thursday at 6pm and on Saturday, they attend events.
Maba says they welcome people of all ages to join them.
“We urge the school learners, youth, young adults and adults to get more active, even if it’s on their own, as, normally, at work, home and school, we get stressed out by a lot of things,” he adds.
“Exercise will help you want to do more, as you will have more energy.”
“Even some of your chronic illnesses can be better managed or cured through exercise and through having a healthier lifestyle,” says member and co-aerobics instructor at GTFC, Edward Khoza.
