Msibi ready to make waves

KwaThema – All she needs is her acoustic guitar and she can serenade any audience.

Mbali Msibi (20), from KwaThema, is ready to show off her talent in the music industry, particularly the gospel genre.

Crediting her lecturer from Ekurhuleni East College in KwaThema for introducing her to guitar playing, she now has found her element in music.

Being an electrical engineering student and religious person, she says she has found balance in what she does and can’t wait to inspire others through her music.

“I had a very low self-esteem when I was growing up and through music and performing I learnt to be comfortable in my own skin.

“I bring in a different sound to traditional gospel music. I mix in a bit of R&B and pop so it entices even the young people who have shied away from the genre,” says Msibi.

She further states that she has only been playing the guitar for a year now, but her skills prove otherwise as people can’t believe she has learnt to play so well in such a short time.

Having a religious background has helped her to stay grounded and find her sound.

One of her biggest milestones as a performer is singing for over a thousand students at her current institution in the presence of prominent people who came to visit.

“After that performance I received so much positive response from my peers and lecturers, which led one of my lecturers to try and get me exposure in the industry,” adds Msibi.

Msibi says she looks up to various artists, mainly gospel singers, for inspiration and motivation but most importantly she appreciates her mentors for always being there for her.

“My two mentors, Apostle Sam Sibeko and Prophet Shepard Bushiri have shaped me into the young woman I am today and for that, I’ll always be grateful.

“My family and friends also play a pivotal role in me pushing myself in my music and I appreciate them for always being my greatest critics,” says Msibi.

Currently she is learning how to play the keyboard and she will soon take up saxophone classes.

“I love instruments and I want to play as many as I can so I can compile and compose my own songs later in my career,” she adds.

Next week Wednesday she will be appearing on e.tv’s morning programme, Sunrise, where she will be a guest performer.
