Local business shows care

KwaThema - Recently Frank Maboki, a resident of KwaThema, received a cash donation of R50 000 from a local wholesaler towards much-needed repairs to the roof of his home after a fire broke out, destroying nearly all his possessions.

Tony Ferreira from the wholesaler in KwaThema set about trying to raise money after reading about Maboki’s heartache in the local newspaper.

Maboki had earlier in the year received his pension payout and purchased a brand-new van and furniture and was busy refurbishing and extending his house when a fire brought his dreams to near rack and ruin.

The call was heeded by Gert Scheepers from the ICC Buying Group, of which the wholesaler is a member.

The donation was extended further by ICC assisting with negotiations with the contractor to ensure the best possible value for the Mabokis.

Maboki’s wife, Florence, who was present at the cheque handover, said the fire burnt down all their furniture and clothes but, more importantly, their memories.

“Thank you ICC for helping to rebuild our house,” she said.

It is estimated a further R100 000 will be required to repair the home fully.
