Manhunt launched for rapist of 12-year-old girl

KwaThema - Local police have launched a manhunt for a suspect (age unknown), following the kidnapping and rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Police spokesman, W/O David Mphali says the girl was sweeping the pavement outside her home around 8am when she saw the driver of a grey motor vehicle stop nearby.

The driver asked the girl a question and as she responded, he approached her with clenched fist, throttled her and took her to the vehicle.

The girl was taken to the grounds at Xipu Street where the driver stopped the vehicle and raped her.

After the unlawful act, as the suspect drove off with the girl, claiming he was taking her back home. She managed to get out of the moving vehicle and fell to the ground, sustaining injuries to her head, left shoulder and waist.

A case of kidnapping and statutory rape was opened at the KwaThema Police Station and no arrests have been made.
