Rapist sentenced to eight years behind bars

KwaThema - Local Bonginkosi Shabangu (23) has been sentenced to eight years in prison following a rape incident which occurred on October 7, 2012.

According to police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora, the accused was accompanying the young woman (age unknown) when the incident took place.

He then forced her into a house in KwaThema and raped her.

Shabangu was arrested later that day.

Since then he has made numerous court appearances, the last being an appearance before the Springs Regional Court on August 2, where he received his sentence.

Shabangu was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
