Entrepreneurs given a platform

Kwatsaduza – Local entrepreneurs are encouraged to enter the Township Entrepreneurship Awards.

The awards are made possible by the Gauteng Department of Economic Development to celebrate, recognise and reward entrepreneurial talent in the townships whilst supporting the province’s goal and commitment to revitalising the township economy.

This year will be the second roll-out of the awards, which are the first of its kind to honour township entrepreneurs, who are running businesses within the township.

Entrepreneurs from different sectors and of all ages are catered for in the 14 categories, where the best business which meets all the requirements will be nominated and a winner announced during the award ceremony in March next year.

Only registered and compliant businesses will be considered.

Head of communications Nondumiso Msomi says the response from Ekurhuleni has been poor and this year they would like to see more entrepreneurs from Ekurhuleni coming forth to be part of the awards.

“The whole idea of the awards is to recognise and reward entrepreneurial talent in the township whilst building confidence in township-based businesses.

“Last year, we had 250 entries from around Gauteng so this year we are looking at having more entries,” she explains.

Nominees and winners will walk away with cash prizes which will go into the upgrading of their businesses.

Closing date for entries is September 16. For more information, visit www.townshipentrepreneurshipawards.co.za, email to info@entrepreneurshipawards.co.za or call 011 805 2001.
