“The driver (35) of the machine then, allegedly, accidentally knocked over the old man. It was alleged that the operator of the road construction vehicle (tyre roller) was reversing the machine along the street.

“He was then told by the community to stop the roller.

“When he stopped and got off the machine to observe what was happening, he saw that he had knocked over a person,” says police spokesman Capt Thabo Sibuyi.

Paramedics declared the unknown man dead on the scene.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated by the police.
