Community take law into their own hands

KwaThema – Police are urging the community not to take the law into their own hands.

This follows an incident which took place on Sibanyoni Street, where an unknown man was allegedly assaulted by the community for suspected robbery on Monday.

The incident took place at 9.15pm.

“A 44-year-old woman alleges that when she returned from work, she saw a group of people assaulting the unknown man near her house,” says Capt Thabo Sibuyi, KwaThema SAPS spokesman.

She claims she asked what was going on and was informed that the man had robbed her son of his cellphone.

“Angry community members also claim the man had accomplices during the incident,” says Sibuyi.

In an effort to intervene, the woman called the police.

The badly assaulted man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Sibuyi says no arrests have been made yet.

The police didn’t find the cellphone on the scene.
