Justice shines light on the people
KwaThema - Residents expressed their frustrations concerning their houses and inheritances during a legal workshop on Tuesday.
The event was held to educate residents about the different stakeholders and departments where they can seek help.
Ward 74 councillor Thulani Simelane says he saw a need to invite all stakeholders under one roof, to educate residents.

“We regularly receive complaints from the residents about losing their homes, not being able to transfer ownership of property or access inheritances.
“We also want them to understand why their electricity had to be disconnected, how and who can access indigent services, and which channels they can follow to sell their houses.”
“They complained about being sent from pillar to post and as a result they end up giving up.
“We are hoping that through the workshop they will know which doors to knock on and receive the help that they need,” he adds.
Deputy Master of the Court, Nthabiseng Masina, says they are calling on the residents to use the services of the Masters of the Court.
“We often come across situations where the owners of the house passed away in the ’80s but there is no change of ownership.
“This should not be the case. Our people should know which doors to knock on and we are here to help them for free,”she says.

Nthabiseng warned residents to be careful of fraudsters who claim to be Masters of the Court.
“They will request that the client pay R500 to help solve their problems quicker but this will only bring more problems.
“They steal ownership of houses and people’s inheritances and are never heard from again,” she says.
A resident, Thabo Letsoalo, says he is happy that the people from Justice have made themselves available.
“For the past five years I have been trying to change ownership of my late parents’ home with no success.
“I have been sent from one department to the other but nothing has come of it.
“I had decided to throw in the towel, but now that they have availed themselves I hope to receive the help I need,” he says.
