Learners excel at national champs
KwaThema - KwaThema Skills School athletes were honoured for excelling at the South African Schools National Athletic Championships late last month in Durban, where they represented Gauteng.
Principal Mvelase Mthembu says that he is very proud of the learners’ performance.
“We are appealing to talent scouts to help these unpolished diamonds and turn them into future Usain Bolts, through proper training,” he said.

Twins Happy and Happiness Dingile were among those honoured.
Happy won two gold medals – in the 400m and 800m races. And Happiness got silver in the 400m race for ladies.
In the 800m run, it was Siphiwe Thombela who received a bronze medal.
And Ronaldo Mohlala came out in fourth place in the 400m run.
“I told them to bring home medals – they know,” added Mthembu.

The principal believes that the learners have the potential to represent South Africa on the international stage.
He explained that they still need support from the community, and private business.
“These children were trained by non-professionals in the different sporting codes. Imagine how much better they would do if they had professional training and good facilities.”
