Grade 12 learner arrested for tablet theft

“The learner was interrogated further until confessed to the officers that he stole the phone in the classroom on Monday.”

Tsakane – A 19-year-old boy has been arrested for being in possession of a stolen school tablet last Friday.

It is alleged the Grade 12 learner at J E Malepe Secondary School was caught selling the stolen tablet by a police official around Extension Five.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, says the boy attempted to sell the tablet to the officer not knowing he was an official of the law.

“The officer questioned him until he got to the bottom of the matter and called the officers who were on duty to take over.

“The learner was interrogated further until he confessed he had stolen the phone in the classroom on Monday,” she says.

Mngomezulu says the learner was charged with theft and has appeared before the Child Justice Court in Tsakane.

“He was released into his parents’/guardian custody,” she says.
