Police concerned about withdrawal of cases

“If you are found, you will face the mighty hand of the law".

KwaThema – Police are concerned about the number of cases that have been opened and withdrawn within a few days by residents in the area.

Capt Thabo Sibuyi says this is a serious concern for the police.

“We have noticed a trend: complainants withdraw cases after they have make agreements with the suspects.

“It is unclear whether this is being done for payment.

“This lowers the conviction rate of our detectives and is discouraging to our police.

“It also makes it difficult for the police to carry out their responsibilities and fight abuse and gender violence,” says Sibuyi.

He says they also seem to have a lot of false cases related to stolen cell phones.

“We want people to know they can be charged for opening a false case because this is a waste of state resources.

“If you are found out, you will face the mighty hand of the law,” he says.
