Charterston Secondary School reunion

Charterston Secondary School's class of 1966 will meet for their reunion this month, 51 years later.

Duduza – In 1966 they were just young boys and girls, but today they are parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents.

Charterston Secondary School‘s class of 1966 will meet for their reunion this month, 51 years later.

“It is bound to be a day full of surprises, tears and laughter.

“We have a lot to catch up on,” says Elliot Phahlane, the event’s organiser.

Isaac Mokhothu, popularly known as ‘Khokza’, who is believed to be the only surviving staff member, will be in attendance.

“Each person will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and tell us what they have been up to in the past 51 years.”

Phahlane believes that there are many friendships that have managed to stay intact through the years.

“Who can forget Gogo Mini’s fat cakes and pies?” asks Phahlane.

“Or for that matter, “the fish and brown bread from the mines called mbunyane?”

Dr Albert Nhlanhla, another class of ’66 member, recalls “how Thethi (Mini) used to smuggle some of the pies in his green blazer for some of us who were not lucky enough to have pocket money.”

Phahlane encourages any classmates who have not been contacted to reach out to him on 082 516 4658 or contact Dr Nelson Moloko on 082 877 1342.

The event will take place on November 18 at 161 Nigel Road, Selcourt.
