Stokvel cash-grab alert
Stokvels and social clubs are urged to be on the alert when sharing out their year-end dividends.
Duduza – Stokvels and social clubs in the area have been cautioned against carrying money in bulk this festive season.
A safety workshop awareness campaign was recently held at Duduza Monti Motloung Hall.
Duduza police spokesperson, Sgt Harry Manaka, says the workshop was aimed at warning the different Stokvel groups to be on the alert when sharing out their year-end dividends.
“We have in the previous years experienced a lot of criminals targeting stokvel beneficiaries,” says Manaka.
“This is because they fail to follow the safety measures which are put into place or suggested by the police or banks.”
Workshop participants were also warned about being followed by criminals who were looking for the opportunity to rob them.
“These are people who have information on their finances and know they have the money on them.”
“It is always safer to rather use the bank transfer facilities,” Manaka adds.
“We are hoping the information shared today will help the beneficiaries to be safe and cautious this festive season.”
