‘Reel’ success for local film-makers

Tsakane – the crew of Twin Plugs Organisation had their hard work acknowledged when they bagged an award at Ekurhuleni Film Festival last Saturday.
“We only submitted one of our films and we got the award.
“We must be doing something right,” says Derick Mathebula.
The Best Feature Film category saw their film titled Nkohlakalo go against nine others for the prize.
Less than a month ago the organisation was preparing to put on a stage production The Broken Promise at Tsakane Old Age Home.
“We will be organising a public screening of the film so that the people know what it is about.”
Shane Sibanyoni, one of the creatives, believes the award will open new doors for the company.
“This is the first time we have entered these awards and we won.
“It may encourage people to take our work seriously.”
Welile Manana says the award is motivation to work even harder on their craft.
The crew will host their own festival in partnership with the Gauteng Filming Commission and Filzos Production, from December 7 to 9.
“We just want the whole family to come out – especially since the young ones are done with school for the year,” adds Derick.
The festival will be in KwaThema, Tsakane and Duduza over the three days and admission is free.

“This is also our way of thanking the community for supporting us and our talents.”
