Honour for local heroes

Ryt Culture honours individuals who play an important role in transforming the communities of Ekurhuleni.

Springs – Ryt Culture hosted a ceremony to honour community heroes at the Springs Civic Theatre last Saturday.

Bongani Vilakazi, founder of Ryt Culture, says in 2012 the company made a commitment to honour individuals who play an important role in transforming the communities of Ekurhuleni.

“In 2014 the first candidate who played a significant role in his outlook and transformation of choral and classical music and as a conductor, Ludumo Magangane, was honoured,” Bongani says.

“The event was well received, and prompted the need to make it an annual event.”

In 2016 Matthews Mogafe was honoured for his entrepreneurial and philanthropic achievement as a game changer in the insurance industry.

“This year we decided to honour two individuals at the same event so as to reach as many people as we can annually, which makes perfect sense from a logistical perspective.”

After careful consideration, and with the focus on education as crucial for survival and development in today’s world, the honours this year went to Prince Thethe and Wandile Mabanga.

“Prince Thethe for his contribution to education and sports, and the role he played in developing the youth with the establishment of cricket in the township.

“And Wandile Mabanga, our very own and astonishing academic who has excelled in maths and science.”

At 25, Wandile has successfully completed his Master of Science dissertation in quantum physics.

Bongani believes this could be a platform for motivating the youth to strive excellence.
