Children welcome Spring Day at the local park.
Children from Overline, Deep Level and Phomolo Section, enjoyed their Spring Day safely in the park without being endangered by drunk drivers.
KwaThema- Proud Innovations, a company owned by 21-year-old Andile Booe, kept children of Overline, Deep Level and Phomolo Section entertained during the Spring Day.
Andile together with his friends Tumelo Nkosi, Ntokozo Nhlapho and Thembokwakhe Radebe, wanted to create a safe place where the children can enjoy themselves without getting hurt.
Normally during the first weekend of September, it gets chaotic and unsafe for children to be on the streets.
All in the name of celebrating Spring Day, some people overindulge in public places while others drink and drive.
Andile says fights that occur when people are drunk are a threat to children and can endanger them.
The picnic was hosted at the Job Maseko Chess Park. Apart from entertaining the children, the picnic also focused on raising funds for another picnic to take place on September 29 to showcase different local talents including in art, dance and local music items – an event that will open more opportunities for local artists.
Present on the day will be a record company that will scout for local talent.
He adds that plans are afoot to host a picnic in December that will see local businesses selling their wares. There will be water slides, and artists will display their talents.
