Police donate school uniforms

“We are calling on the community members and other stakeholders who are interested in making a donation to improve the initiative to come forward.”

KwaThema – Learners from Menzi Primary School received school uniforms and stationery from Tsakane SAPS, Tsakane Mall, Standard Bank Tsakane and Tsakane Decor Express on Monday.

Eighty learners from Grades One to Seven benefited from the initiative, receiving items which included school shoes, trousers, shirts, socks and stationery.

This was part of their annual drive to improve the lives of the disadvantaged learners.

Tsakane police spokesperson, Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu, says it is painful that a month after the schools reopened, there are still learners without a school uniform or stationery for their education.

“This is also a way of fighting crime because we don’t want the learners to drop out of school because of the lack of uniforms and stationery and later commit a crime.

“The uniforms and other stationery are bought by the members of the police and other stakeholders and they identify a school that will benefit from the donation.

“We also work closely with the school and educators to identify beneficiaries,” explains Mngomezulu.

Members of the police encouraged and motivated the learners to stay in school and focus on their studies.

“We are calling on the community members and other stakeholders who are interested in making a donation to improve the initiative to come forward.”
