Miss Eagle calls for safe driving

“Do not drink alcohol when driving because one drink is all it takes to lose control."

Kwatsaduza – Tshepo Makupu, Empress South Africa 2019, has embarked on a #DriveSafeT campaign at the Kyalami Race Track last weekend.

The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of accidents and deaths on South Africa’s roads.

Tshepo is currently completing her advanced driving course.

During the event, Tshepo demonstrated her advanced driving skills using the 458 yellow Ferarri Italia sponsored by the pageant.

Tshepo says the festive season saw many families crippled by death and injuries of loved ones.

“During the 2018 festive period, 767 people have died due to accidents on our South African roads, a 16 per cent increase from the previous year.

“In Gauteng alone, there were 125 deaths caused by accidents (Stats SA).

“We started this campaign early this year as we feel that the festive season message has become somewhat complacent in giving impetus to safe and responsible driving.

“Our message of safe and responsible driving must be implemented all year round, and not just before and during the festive season,” she adds.

The model says she is urging road users and passengers to buckle up at all times.

“Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and your licence disk up to date.

“Check your brakes and tyres regularly as well as your tyre pressure.

“Do not drink alcohol when driving because one drink is all it takes to lose control.

“Always be courteous and vigilant on the road and do not shoot the red robots.”

Tshepo encourages the drivers to always check for oncoming traffic even at the green lights and keep a safe following distance.

“Do not text and drive, but wait until you reach your destination before responding to text messages.

“Keep within the speed limit and respect all road users,” she adds.

Tshepo intends on growing her campaign awareness nationwide in hopes that it would reduce the number of accidents on our roads.

She has been crowned Empress South Africa 2019 on December 17, at Suncoast Casino in Durban and she aims to become involved in several causes and charities this year, as she is passionate about using her title to make a positive impact on her country.
