Kwa Langa Development is empowering the community through crafts, beadwork and self-employment.
This is a community outreach project to create a platform to educate each other about crafts and beadwork.
However, due to high unemployment rate and poverty, the project saw it necessary to increase the initiative to better the lives of the community.

The facilitator, Mthokozisi Maseko, said: “The objective is to make a difference in our communities. There are areas we have identified where we could reach out and make a difference”, says Maseko.
The project aims to promote sustainable development. “Our end result is to see the community empowered with necessary skills and to create self-employment,” says the chairperson, Siviwe Majiyczi.

The project, which started seven months ago, currently faces minor challenges. “A challenge we are currently facing is the lack of involvement from the youth, but our doors are open to everyone,” added Maseko.
The organisation is inviting people who have an interest in crafts and beadwork to be part of the project.
Beading activities have enabled the community to develop livelihood strategies and to improve livelihoods.
This project is a great example of how communities can collaborate to fight ills while at the same time improving their sources of income.
