Residents not happy about reconstructed manhole
“Residents whose pavements and driveways had been affected by the initial work were also unhappy with how it had been subsequently been repaired.”
KwaThema – Earlier this year the residents of Mthembu Village in Masimini section complained about a stormwater drainage left open since April.
The construction company had dug the tar road up to make way for the new stormwater channels but soon after they left, the road started sinking in.
Concerned residents explained that two holes were left open with no barricade or warning drivers about the hazard left on the road.
At the time, three vehicles drove into the holes and had to be pulled out; residents were concerned about the safety of the residents and drivers.
After African Reporter inquired about the mess, the construction company was assigned to fix it but again no driver can use that side of the road.
A huge cement block has been placed on top of the manhole making it impossible for drivers to use the lane.

In her comment Ward 78 Clr Zanele Nyakale says she is disappointed by the work done by the constructor.
“I have approached them about the matter and he said they have run out of construction material and will resume work soon,” she says.
Ward 8 DA PR councillor Lorna Beharie says they want to know where the constructors are and why they left without completing the job.
“I have received phone calls by extremely irate residents who advised that even though the repairs had taken place it has been done haphazardly.
“When I visited the street it was obvious that the road is still unsafe and extremely dangerous.
“Residents whose pavements and driveways had been affected by the initial work were also unhappy with how it had be subsequently been repaired.
“This is not acceptable! How were these contractors appointed and why are they being allowed to get away with substandard work at the expense of the taxpayer?”
