Mothers encouraged to speak out against abuse

“No one has superior rights over the other or the right to abuse them.”

KwaThema – Mothers in Phomolo Section were celebrated on Mother’s Day at an event hosted by Kingsmen Organisation on Sunday.

The celebration also marked the organisation’s first anniversary.

During the event, residents were taught about different forms of abuse and how to report them to the police.

KwaThema SAPS station commander Col Mareketle Thobejane spoke to the guests about domestic violence, drugs and other crimes that affect the community.

“Women are abused daily by either their spouse or men in their lives.

“We urge victims to speak out and seek help before it is too late.

“No one has superior rights over the other or the right to abuse them.”

She encouraged the community to work with the police to help fight crime.

“We cannot allow criminals to take ownership of the community and hold us to ransom.

“The police are an extension of the community and without your support they will not succeed in fighting crime,” she says.
