A man sustained severe injuries after he was struck by a train near Payneville Train Station on Saturday evening.

At approximately 9.45pm, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found the man still trapped underneath the train.

Paramedics managed to extricate him from underneath the train and rushed him to Tambo Memorial Hospital for further care.

“According to bystanders, the man attempted to cross the tracks when he was struck by the train,” says Werner Vermaak, spokesperson for ER24.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigation.
