Job Maseko Primary off to nationals

“It teaches children to be responsible with water and because they are performing it, they learn the lesson better than if I was standing in front of them lecturing.”

Duduza – Job Maseko Primary School has made it to the nationals of the Water is Life, Sanitation is Dignity competition.

The competition, which is run by the Department of Water and Sanitation, is an arts competition that encourages learners in the intermediate phase to teach their schools and communities about the importance of saving water.

The competition has five categories, namely, Drama, Poster, Music, Praise Poetry and Poetry; Job Maseko Primary participated in the music categories.

Teacher at Job Maseko Primary Sphelele Gumbi, who helped the learners with the competition, says he is proud of his learners.

“I am proud of my learners as we have been working hard on our songs, one was written by me and two that we remixed,” he says.

Gumbi says competitions of this kind are important because it teaches children to be responsible with water, especially because it has become a scarce commodity.
