Ekurhuleni metro encourages residents to report damaged water meters

A small water meter connection of 15mm can be applied for, for both business and domestic use, at any finance office by the owner of a property.

Kwatsaduza – Residents in Ekurhuleni are encouraged to report damaged water meters.

In a statement shared by the metro on their Facebook page, they share steps on how residents can apply for a new water meter.

It is preferred that the applicant first confirm that Ekurhuleni reticulation is available at the Water Quality and Revenue Division Area Engineer’s office.

The metro further stresses that the owner of the property will bear full cost of the installation and the City of Ekurhuleni only installs meters:

• In council-owned road reserve – not a servitude or road stand;

• Connected to a council-owned network;

• 24/7 access to meters;

• One connection per stand.

The news were received with mixed reactions by the residents about paying for the new meters.

Nomthandazo Zwane says she feels it is unfair that residents have to pay for the new meter while they were installed for free in the first place.

While others were interested in the amount of money they had to pay for the re-installation.
