Community stands together to fight mental illness

KwaThema – The Worst is Never the Worst organisation hosted an anger management workshop at the KwaThema Community Hall on June 22.

The purpose of the event was to create awareness about anger management, depression and providing helpful coping tips.

Workshop organiser Nhlanhla Ndaba says people need not shy away from talking about mental issues and creating awareness as it is the only way to get help and to educate people.

“The event was very successful. I am very grateful to everyone who came out to show support and our local artists for gracing us with their presence.

“We learned a lot from all the speakers who were present.

“I want to continue to encourage people to come forward and share their stories,” she explains.

Sweetness Nokuthula November, who hosted the event, says: “I have learnt a lot from this workshop and had tons of fun in the process.

“I am thankful to the organiser for giving us this platform and believing in us.

People are hurting and, even worse, they are diagnosed with all sorts of mental illnesses. Some are dying in silence to avoid being labelled with names such as playing victim or seeking for attention.”
