Baking skills workshop to empower Tsakane residents

Thandi Nkosi (55), a graduate from the programme, says: “I am looking forward to starting my own business and using all the knowledge and skills I have learned here and I will be able to provide for my family.”

Tsakane – The first intake of the baking skills workshop received their attendance certificates on July 9 at the Tsakane Old Age Home, making them the first group to graduate from the skills programme this year.

The programme is facilitated by qualified baker and FoodBev Seta holder Enock Dladla.

He explains there is so much people can do to earn an income using their hands and applying all the little things they have learned.

“I am pleased with what we were able to do in just three weeks, and the skills they have acquired here will have a positive impact in their lives going forward,” says Dladla.

The next intake will begin on July 15 and the course runs for three weeks. Thereafter, students receive an attendance certificate.

“I am inviting anyone from the age of 16 who has an interest in baking to come and register for the workshop. Registration is only R100 and this is a great opportunity to meet new people and learn new things,” says Dladla.

The workshop is not only for people who are interested in starting their own businesses, but also those who enjoy baking in the comfort of their own homes.

Busisiwe Hermanus (42), one of those students, says she will be preparing freshly baked bread and scones for her family.
