KwaThema – The Ward 76 Community Support Programme (CSP) provides community-based services and support for residents with health issues and social services.
These are the members of the community who are playing an active role in ensuring that the members of the community are well taken care off.
This is an extension of the primary health care which reaches out to the people at household level.
Health agent from CSP Gugu Njoko says their work is to encourage and educate people about living a healthy lifestyle and the importance of regular check-ups at local clinics.
“Our ground work is about doing home visits and encouraging people to take their medication and visit the clinic when its time.
“We also do referrals for those who are not able to go to the clinics,” says Gugu.
The services are made to meet the needs of the community, and they work hand in hand with the health department, social workers, police and social services.
“CSP started back in 2017, and we are working with other departments to better the lives of the community.
“We do field work five days a week, from Monday to Friday.
“I just want to encourage our people to live a healthy lifestyle and learn to take full responsibility for their actions,” says Sindiswa Mntambo.
Dikeledi Moepye, CSP field agent, says they receive training on a monthly basis which enables them to handle and assist people in need.
She says people have made their work more comfortable by allowing them into their homes.
