SANDF spends their 67 minutes at Mabel Zozo Créche
The SANDF painted the fence at the school, installed ceilings, which were damaged by heavy rains, in two classrooms, fixed leaking toilets, gave out 340 party packs to the children and restored the kitchen ceiling, which was worn out.
Duduza – July 18 marked former president Nelson Mandela’s 101 birthday.
To commemorate his memory, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) visited community-based non-profit organisation (NPO) Mabel Zozo Crèche and Nursery School on July 17 and 18.
The NPO was established in 1981 and has 340 enrolled children. They accommodate children from zero to six years old.
The SANDF painted the fence at the school, installed ceilings, which were damaged by heavy rains, in two classrooms, fixed leaking toilets, gave out 340 party packs to the children and restored the kitchen ceiling, which was worn out.
The centre’s principal, Puleng Moloko, says this is the first time since the building was established that is was upgraded.

“I am extremely grateful and appreciate what they have done for us.
“This is the first time this building is upgraded; due to lack of funds it could not previously be done.”
Five-year-old Amahle Mazibuko says: “My school looks so beautiful; the soldiers painted our fence and we have new lights, which will make it easy to learn when our teacher is teaching is us.”
Representing the SANDF was Maj Thomas Sezoe, who says this is part of their reach-out project to uplift and better communities.
“This is part of our of Chief Army Project, to reach out to the community.
“We started at this school after visiting it and realising they needed help urgently.
“They requested that we paint the fence and help with the ceiling,” says Sezoe.
