Project X is a skills-development organisation, which was formed in 2018 by four youngsters, Bhekizizwe Kunene, Odireleng More, Noniya Ngobeni and Phumla Mvelase, from KwaThema, with the purpose of empowering and uplifting communities.
For the food donation to be possible, the organisation held a car wash fund-raiser on Mandela Day.
Kunene from Project X says Mandela Day have inspired them to work with a local orphanage because Mandela Day symbolises the spirit of giving and sharing.
“This was mainly for celebrating the legacy of Mandela.
“We reached to Bahama Bar for help and they sponsored us with the space to host the car wash fund-raiser.
“If we as people are able to help each other and can encourage that spirit on a daily basis, our country will go very far,” says Kunene.

The orphanage was established in 2011 by Thoko Linah Nhlapo (62).
“The children and our staff members are extremely happy to see the youth in our very own community doing something meaningful and beautiful,” says Nhlapo.
Cynthia Ndlovu (8), who has been residing at the orphanage for eight years, says: “I would like to thank Project X for the food they have donated. This means a lot to us and we are happy.”
The newly formed relationship is meant to be an ongoing one.
The organisation pledged to come back and donate blankets and mattresses.
Sizwe Skosana (17), who was taken in by Nhlapo after both his parents died, says the orphanage is a place of hope for many just like him and that living at the orphanage has become a home to him and offers great opportunities.
