Parents called to protect their children

“We cannot expect the teachers to fight this monster alone as they are not trained in this field.”

KwaThema – Bambisanani BBS club, in conjunction with Soul City, held a motivational talk at Job Maseko Primary school on Saturday.

The event was aimed at engaging with parents and learners in Grade Six and Seven about the challenges they face daily as young teenagers.

Event organiser Muzi Mdluli says: “They have identified that young people are abused daily, whether in school, home or on the streets.

“We decided to start with the Grade Six and Seven learners because they are vulnerable to abuse and will be going into high school.

“As part of the programme, we wanted to educate them about what to expect, the dangers of experimenting with drugs and sexual intercourse.

“We want them to know that as members of the community we are here to help them in whatever way to fight the monster of abuse.

“We are also calling on parents to speak out against abuse of their children and not to resort to solving the matter within families.

“The victims need counselling to be able to rebuild their lives no matter how physically fit they look,” he says.
