Church women brighten up learners’ day in class

Kwatsaduza – The Women’s Fellowship from Dutch Reformed Church donated sanitary towels to learners from five schools in the area last Thursday.
This was to commemorate Women’s Month.
Project coordinator Carol Mabena says they identified a need to have a sanitary pads drive for the learners as part of their contribution to the Women’s Month calendar events.

“At most of the schools we donated to, many of the learners are from informal settlements and disadvantaged backgrounds. Some are orphaned and raised by their grandparents.
“We don’t want the young girls to go through their monthly cycle stressed because they don’t have means to protect themselves.
“We want all the learners to be in class and not have menstruation keeping them away from school.

“These are our children and they must know we are here to support them with whatever need they may have,” she says.
Mabena says they are also promoting hygiene for the young girls.
“We don’t want them to use towels or newspapers which could lead to infections in the long run,” she adds.
