CanSurvive in awareness cancer campaign
This Cancer month men, women and children are encouraged to get tested
Tsakane – October is the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To create awareness and inform locals about cancer, the CanSurvive organisation held an awareness campaign at Tsakane Mall on October 4. Supporting them on this initiative was the Child With Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Foundation, and a Mobile Clinic from Ekurhuleni.
Director, organiser and cancer survivor, Ronnie Nkabinde says a number of people suffering from cancer are increasing, especially in the townships, and families do not know how to support their loved ones.

“People are sick and are scared of leaving their homes to seek help.
“We are here to ensure there’s accessibility to information, and that people are comfortable to ask whatever questions they have.
“And being a cancer survivor, it gives a message of hope that there is help out there,” says Nkabinde.
Cancer survivor Masabatha Matlala says being diagnosed with breast cancer changed her life, but through treatment she has been able to defeat the disease.

“I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016 after months of pain not knowing it was a lump under my breast.
“It took me a year to finally be cancer-free. What the experience has taught me is that a regular check up is essential; do not wait to be sick first.
We need to prioritise our health and acquire as much information as we can to better our lives and improve our lifestyle.”
The organisation encourages people to get tested at the local clinics. The service is free, and enables people to learn to understand different types of cancer, and to detect early symptoms.
