Creatives come together to share ideas
They not only want to groom young local talent, but help them reach a bigger market using the new-age digital space.
KwaThema – Enkambini Creatives, an innovation, design and research company based in Ekurhuleni, held an Impact of Creativity seminar at the KwaThema Community Hall on October 3.
The purpose of the gathering was to encourage innovative ideas, showcase talent from local artists and learn the aspects of the business side of art.
Kgolofelo Boshielo, co-founder of Enkambini Creatives, says the idea has been in the pipeline for some time.

“This is an idea that we are pushing.
“We found the importance of having this event because there’s a lot of things that hinder artist or creatives from townships.
“We wanted to have panel discussions with people who are in the space of arts in the space of creativity, but also in the space of working with community,” says Boshielo.
He further explains that they not only want to groom young local talent, but help them reach a bigger market using the new-age digital space.

“We have showcases and workshops by artists because we need to expose each other’s creativity, expose artists from different forms of creativity.
“There’s a digital side to creativity as well that we wanted to expose.
“We’re going to have robotics.
“We have a photography workshop and a User Experience Design and User Interface Design workshop.
“It’s very important because we are going into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, they have to be digitally inclined, not just on paper, but know the digital mediums you can use to expose yourself and your art.”
The event was attended by local designers, producers, musicians, illustrators, portraitist and sketch artists.

KwaThema Artist Forum representative Mandla Sibeko says: “Such events play a crucial role because we do not have an art centre in KwaThema, while places like Tsakane and Duduza do. Therefore, we need to be united and work together to be able to achieve our goals while doing something we love.”
Lerato Dumse, a photographer, says that as artists it is important to learn to do things for themselves and cater for their community.
“We must lead by example and show the young ones that nothing is unreachable.
“We are capable as residents of this community, it is time we take control of this creative industry and start our own businesses.”
