Tsakane man sentenced for raping granddaughter

Tsakane – The Tsakane Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 58-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his 10-year-old granddaughter.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says the victim told her friend about the incident the following day, and the friend told her father about it.

“The concerned father went on to report the matter to the police.

“Through police investigations, the grandfather was arrested,” Mngomezulu explains.

Tsakane station commander Col Johannes Maas says as the station they accept the court ruling and sentencing.

“This will be a good lesson to many who still think about breaking the law.

“We also appreciate that a man decided to report the evil deed to the police, to ensure that the victim is protected.

“We need more men who decide ‘not on my watch’ and speak out,” he says.
