Police search for woman who abandoned baby at hair salon

Infant abandoned in hair salon- Duduza SAPS.

Duduza police are searching for a woman who abandoned a baby boy at a hair Salon in Zimu Extension on July 4.

It is alleged the woman, who was carrying the baby, came into the hair salon and asked for her hair to be washed.

According to Sgt Harry Manaka, spokesperson for Duduza SAPS, the woman paid the salon owner while waiting her turn.

She then asked if she could leave the baby on the couch while she went to a nearby shop to buy items for the baby.

The infant was asleep at the time.

The owner told her to hurry because she was almost finished with the prior customer.

The woman left and never returned to wash her hair nor collect the baby.

The woman is said to be Xhosa speaking and it was the first time she visited the salon.

The baby has since been in the care of one of the customers who was in the salon where he was abandoned.

The Department of Social Development has since been notified about the case and its progress.

The police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the woman to urgently call the investigating officers at the Springs Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.
