Kwa-Thema – Police are warning motorists travelling on the N17 highway to be extra vigilant when using the road. This follows a recent case in which a woman was targeted by hijackers masquerading as law enforcers. Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Sgt Media Khoza said the 50-year-old victim was travelling along the N17 highway when she was pulled over by the occupants of an unmarked vehicle with flashing blue lights.

“She was then approached by two men who were dressed in what she believed was a traffic official’s uniform and they asked for her driver’s licence and also checked her licence disc. “From nowhere, a third man emerged from the passenger’s side and the victim was told to cooperate. “She was driven to an open veld where the men tried to remove the tracking device from the vehicle. “The victim managed to alert her son, who informed police and the tracking company, and through this swift response the vehicle was located. “The men fled the scene on foot with valuables worth R82 000,” she said.

Khoza added the victim was unharmed and united with her family. “The investigation is ongoing and motorists are urged not to stop if they suspect they are being pulled over by bogus officers. “Rather drive to the nearest police station or a safe place,” she said.
