Kwa-Thema residents mourn the death of Lindiwe Lasindwa

Kwa-Thema – Residents are mourning the death of Lindiwe Lasindwa, who was a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
She died on Sunday morning after a short illness.
During her memorial ceremony held on Wednesday in Kwa-Thema, she was remembered for her fierce personality in fighting for equality.
She was described as a diligent, dedicated and outstanding cadre who carried her tasks with distinction, honesty and was committed to the advancement of an equal democratic society.

She was one of the longest-serving members of the provincial legislature and served as the chairperson of the portfolio committee on economic development, environment, agriculture and rural development.
She joined the Gauteng Legislature in 2006 and served as a member of the portfolio committees of education, public transport, roads and works and the standing committee for gender, youth and people with disabilities (GEYODI).
Lasindwa was appointed as the chairperson of GEYODI due to her passion for issues concerning the rights of women and disadvantaged people in society.
She set up a task team at the legislature to conduct a study on the accessibility of people with disabilities into the legislature building, which resulted in infrastructure upgrades to cater for people with disabilities.
Lasindwa advocated for these issues to be mainstreamed in all areas of the economy and workplace.
She served on Standing Committee on Public Accounts and as chairperson of the portfolio committee on infrastructure development, where she was passionate about enforcing the 30 days’ payment policy of the government at ensuring contractors were paid within the stipulated 30 days to avoid delays in service delivery.

Before joining the Gauteng Legislature, Lasindwa was a Ward 46 councillor in Kwa-Thema from 2004 to 2006, serving on the committees of health and social development and public safety.
She will be laid to rest on Friday. The memorial service will be held at Zion Apostolic Independent Church on Kotane Street and the cortège will leave for Nokuthula Memorial Park thereafter.
