A 35-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a six-year-old girl on Monday.
The child is the daughter of the man’s girlfriend.
According to Sgt Harry Manaka of the Duduza SAPS, the man initially reported to the mother that the child was sick. This was after the mother received a call from the child’s school notifying her that her daughter had not arrived.

“The mother, who works close to where she lives, decided to go home to see why the child had not gone to school. She met her boyfriend on her way back home. She was shown the child and was told that she was sleeping.
“The man then left,” explained Manaka.
According to Manaka, the child was unresponsive and the mother decided to take her to the clinic.
“On the way to the clinic, she saw her boyfriend and he accompanied them to the clinic. On arrival at the clinic, the child was pronounced dead.
